Homophobia as a state of exception in Poland. Discrimination, resistance and care.

This presentation addresses a specific part of the contemporary antifascism – the resistance against homo-, queer- and transphobia, which are currently institutionally practiced under the name of “protecting the family”. Many local governments, municipalities and rural communities in Poland ratified documents, which under the supposedly neutral names, bring exclusions, marginalization and discrimination of the LGBTQ+ communities and persons. Some 25% of the Polish map is covered with those. Activists involved in mapping these zones at www.atlasnienawisci.pl now face legal charges. In the presentation I will discuss their resistance to institutionalized homophobia as a form of contemporary antifascism, combining the rejection of segregation, solidarity with and among those excluded and egalitarian politics as response to that based on hate.
